As
a Museum and, therefore, by definition living in the past, we have no truck
with modern ideas and our shops are boldly referred to as the Boys’ and
Girls’ shops. Our philosophy is to try to stock what our customers would
like to buy after viewing our collections; to this end we stock old toys wherever
possible eked out by modern items in the same idiom.Entrance to the Collection is through the Boys’ shop where overflow from the Museum, in the form of a pre-war pedal car, Pelham puppets, Action Man vehicles and boxed games is displayed at the door. For sale are diecast cars and vehicles in all the usual scales, toy and model soldiers and figures, including farm, circus, cowboys, Indians and knights, a wide range of science fiction toys (Star Wars, in particular), comic book figures, especially Batman, mainly old plastic construction kits, second hand only model railway engines, rolling stock and accessories (mostly in “OO” but some vintage “O,” a varied selection of Scalextric cars 1960 to 1980 plus a few by other makers and a couple of sailing boats.
